2024 Construction Management and Sustainability Scholars

The Construction Management and Sustainability Scholars Program (CMSSP) welcomed its first cohort in January 2024. Four undergraduate students were selected and they will continue as Scholars through the Fall 2024 Semester. Through the program, students develop leadership skills to advance impactful careers in service to society, and demonstrate a commitment to engaging communities to address social and environmental injustices.

Meet the 2024 Scholars

My passion for civil engineering stems from a fascination with the challenge of creating infrastructure that can withstand the test of time, both physically and socio-politically. I hope to pursue a career in higher education focused on the relationship between people and their built environment, emphasizing social justice and sustainability. I am deeply grateful to the Tishman family and NorthLight Foundation for this opportunity. The knowledge and connections I will gain as a part of CMSSP will undoubtedly shape my professional journey and commitment to creating a more sustainable world.

I chose the University of Michigan for its commitment to civil service and sustainable practices. I envision myself becoming an engineer dedicated to improving the environment and society cohesively. The CMSSP allows me to focus my education on sustainable construction and infrastructure. I want to thank the Tishman family and the NorthLight Foundation for this opportunity to explore the intersection of construction and sustainability. My participation in this program will provide me with the education and real-world experience needed to excel in my career.

I am passionate about the intersection of civil engineering and sustainability, so I wanted to join a program that makes a difference in the world while fostering innovation. This summer, I interned with a team researching how to recycle waste materials on construction sites. The education I have received at U-M CEE has deepened my interest in exploring more areas of sustainability. I would like to thank the Tishman family and Northlight Foundation for their investment in my education. Your generosity means a lot to me, and may give me the opportunity to pursue graduate studies.

I’ve had a passion for construction from a young age, and with my grandfather being a structural engineer, I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I hope to become a project engineer, attain my PE license, and possibly pursue an MBA Within CMSSP, I aim to help grow and develop this program while maintaining sustainability ideals. I would like to express my gratitude to t he Tishman family and the Northlight Foundation for their support, which allows us to advance our research in sustainability and uphold the University of Michigan’s tradition of leadership in the industry.
