Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is this program called the MasterTrack Certificate?

If a student successfully completes this online certificate, and is then admitted to our on-campus Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) program, then the student can earn up to 6 credits of acceleration in the graduate degree program. In other words, a student who has completed the online MasterTrack certificate will only need to complete 20 additional credits of work on campus in order to obtain the M.Eng degree instead of the regular course load of 26 credits. These credits can be typically completed on campus in 8 months (Fall and Winter semesters).

Q: How is the MasterTrack Certificate program unique or different from other certificate programs?

The MasterTrack Certificate program in Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Michigan offers world class education from a top-tier university. The MasterTrack Certificate is a globally recognized credential that is co-branded by the University of Michigan and Coursera.

The MasterTrack Certificate program offers learners an excellent introduction to the fundamental as well as modern construction engineering and management topics that are globally relevant in a professional context.

The University of Michigan MasterTrack Certificate program also provides an accelerated pathway for learners into the in-residence Master’s program on our campus, and allows admitted learners to receive 6 credits towards a full Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Construction Engineering and Management.

Q: What kind of certificate will I get upon completion of the MasterTrack Certificate program?

A formal certificate will be issued to learners upon completion of the program. The certificate will be issued as a digital credential and will be co-branded by the University of Michigan and Coursera. It will be signed by the faculty members who teach the courses as well as by members in university leadership. Here is a Sample Certificate. Please note that actual certificates will contain original signatures that are not shown in the sample certificate.

Q: If a student successfully completes the MasterTrack Certificate, is admission to the on-campus Master’s degree programs guaranteed?

No. Completing the MasterTrack Certificate in Construction Engineering and Management itself does not guarantee admission to the on-campus programs in any way. A student must meet all the admission criteria for those degree programs in order to be admitted. However, as noted above, if admitted, a student who has completed the MasterTrack certificate may be eligible for up to 6 credits of acceleration in the on-campus graduate degree program. Please visit the M.Eng. program page for more information.

The cost of a full Master’s Degree will be dependent on how much time the student spends on campus, which can change according to a number of factors. We anticipate that a student will need two full semesters of on-campus effort to complete a Master’s degree beyond the MasterTrack certificate. The cost of tuition per semester for international and domestic students can be found at the UM Registrar’s Website.
